Object: Small Mycenaean amphora

Material: Beige clay with original black and dark orange paint.

Period: 1400 BC to 1200 BC.
Late Helladic III, the Mycenaean Age.
Late Bronze Age.

Description:    The small vessel of the Mycenaeans has the shape of a tapered cylinder, with a slender base and a high, voluminous belly. A vertical, tapered, short neck sits on the shoulder. Three handles are arranged symmetrically on the shoulder. They are shaped like an arc and point outwards and upwards.
The elegant amphora shape of the vessel is enhanced by the geometric painting. The entire body is decorated with encircling lines and a wide band of rhombuses.

Dimensions: 14cm height, 12cm diameter.

Condition: Restored from fragments. Minor chips on the outside surface. The original painting has been largely preserved. Old sticker from a previous owner reading "p.p.d.-349" on the bottom.

Provenance: Acquired by us in a German auction house in 2020. Previously in the French private collection A. J. Acquired in 1960.
