Object: Roman gold ring with intaglio

Material: Hollow ring band made of gold sheet. Intaglio made of clear, red carnelian.

Period: 1st to 3rd century AD.
Roman Imperial period.

Description:    The beautiful finger ring made of gold is almost torus-shaped and hollow. Framed is a carnelian intaglio, with a male portrait head in the linear style.

Dimensions: 23mm x 21mm outside. 16mm x 15mm inside. The intaglio approx. 8mm x 6mm.

Condition: Very good condition. Ring band with various dents and slightly deformed. Overall, however, close to the original condition. Set with the original intaglio.

Provenance: Acquired by us on the Paris art market in 2021. Previously in the French private collection R. Acquired into this from the French private collection T., into which the ring was included in the 1970s or earlier.
