| Description: |
S-shaped handle of a vessel, almost square at the top, and rounded at the bottom. A grim satyr's head with goat's ears adorns the top. On either side of the handle are three-dimensional volutes culminating in a depiction of a charging boar. A separately mounted appliqué at the bottom shows a finely crafted Medusa head. The three-dimensional workmanship is of exceptionally fine quality. |
| Size: |
Height 145 mm, together with the modern base 203 mm.
|
| Condition: |
The handle itself is in wonderful condition. The decorations are preserved in all their detail and enhanced with a green patina. There are only minor chips, particularly on the chin of Medusa's head. A modern metal pin is embedded in the upper part of the handle, allowing the piece to be mounted on the modern base. The base has a black lacquered wooden foundation.
