Object number
AR3261E
Object:       Statuette of a standing woman

Material: Fair brownish clay

Date: Late 4th - early 3rd century B.C.
Tanagra, Boeotia.

Description:    The young lady stands frontally in contrapost on a low, square plinth. Her right leg is slightly put forward; her right arm, bent at the elbow, probably rested on a column in the marble original from which the iconography was presumably copied, while her left arm is held to her side. Her cloak is swung behind her back and over her arms; she holds it loosely with both hands. Her otherwise bare upper body and proudly raised head convey an almost defiant impression to the viewer. She wears an elaborate wreath of leaves over her carefully styled hair.

Size: Height 18.6 cm.

Condition: Nearly perfect condition. The figure is completely intact. Even remnants of the original, multicolored paintwork have been preserved. A solid crack between the figure's legs is apparently antique.
