Material: Hellbrauner Ton mit weitgehend erhaltenem dunklem Überzug und Fundpatina.
Size: Length 80 mm, width 58 mm, height 28 mm. Diameter of filling hole 29 mm, diameter of wick hole 12 mm.
Dating: 6th - 8th century AD
Condition: Perfectly preserved, no damage, no restorations.
Description: The large central filling hole and the small knob handle are typical features of late-antique Levantine oil lamps.
References: Levantine lamps of this time were made in an enormous variety, sometimes emulating earlier designs but typically cruder and with variations. While the main types are well published, the numerous variations unfortunately mostly still lack a thorough review. In general, apart from the lamps found in Israel (and early excavations in Antioch), very little published research on lamps from this region as a whole exists.
