Object: Cypriot figure from the archaic period

Material: Light brown clay.

Period: Approx. 700 BC to 480 BC.
Cypro-archaic.

Description:    The clay figurine has a hollow cylindrical body. Nose, mouth and eyes are modeled schematically. The head transitions into a pointed headdress.
In archaeological literature this type of figure is referred to as "Snowman".

Dimensions: 138mm high without stand, 192mm high with stand.

Condition: Feet and arms broken and missing, body intact, small chips to the head. Surface wear, but parts of the original red paint or coating are still visible at the bottom of the back side. The basic shape of the figurine is still clear. Old inscription on the back side of the figure "73953" and on the stand "9B CPV £22".

Provenance: Acquired by us in 2017 from the private posession of M. Voos, Germany. Inherited by M. Voos from the Germany private collection H. Herbst. Acquired approx. in 1976 at Davies Antiques, London for the Herbst collection and brought to Germany (a copy of the original invoice is available).
