Object: Gourd shaped bowl of the Chimú culture

Material: Grey earthenware with shiny black surface. The surface is typical for the Chimú firing technique.

Period: Circa 900 AD to 1430 AD, time of the Chimú Empire in the North of today's Peru.

Description:    Elegant hemispherical bowl. The shape is based on a half hollowed-out gourd. A spout on the rim makes it clear that the bowl was used for liquids.
The gourd was one of the main agricultural products of the Chimú.

Dimensions: 13.1 x 12.1cm diameter. 6cm height.

Condition: Perfect condition. Fully intact. Elegant vessel.

Provenance: Acquired by us on the German art market in 2021. Previously in the German family collection E. P. Acquired in the 1960s or 1970s.
