Object: Polychrome glass bracelet
Material: Whitish glass. Coloured glass paste on the outside.
Dimensions: Diameter 74mm outside, 64mm inside. 10mm height.
Find spot: Eastern Mediterranean.
Period: 1st cent. AD to 11th cent. AD.
Roman to Byzantine period.
Condition: Perfect condition, only slightly worn surface.
Beschreibung: Bracelet from antiquity to late antiquity. Such types were used as a votive offering, but also for actual wear (cf. Cantz, Roman, Byzantine and Early Medieval Glass). This glass bracelet made in a technique without visible joint.
Body of white glass with elaborate polychrome design made from glass paste on the outside. Stripes of red and yellow, next to a band of black glass paste. Traces of actual wear on the inside propose that this bracelet was not solely used as a votive offering.
