Object: Figurine of a standing woman

Material: Red clay with remaining of white grounding and painting in red and blue.

Date: About 330 - 200 B.C.
Hellenistic period. South Italian.

Description:    Figurine of a woman standing in contrapposto. She is wearing chiton and cloak. Even fine details of hair dress and earrings are thoroughly worked.

Size: Height 65 mm, width 79 mm.

Condition: Good condition. Minor chips, especially at base plate. Head attached, base plate restored. Otherwise complete and undamaged with traces of original painting .

Reference: J. Chesterman, Classical Terracotta Figures (London 1974) p. 66 Nr. 74.

Provenance: Acquired 2021 on the Swiss art market. Ex Swiss private collection, acquired in the early 1980s. A photo of the figure from the collector's photo album dated September 1988 is preserved.
