Miniature shape of the Athenian "ΣΟΣ"-amphorae

Material: Red clay with dark slip

Date: First half 6th century B.C.
Archaic period of Ancient Greece

Description:    Slim conical foot with rounded ende and conical depression at bottom. Wide, slightly concave shoulder with band not covered by black slip, therein four red lines. The short neck without black slip as well. Echinus-shaped mouth, small round handles.

Size: Height 84 mm, diameter 57 mm

Condition: Perfect condition for an ancient pottery vessel, minimal wear.

Provenance: Acquired 2018 from the German family collection Bergweiler which was formed over several generations. Acquired by Ä. and P. Bergweiler November 30th, 1967 at Antiquitätenhandlung Hermann Zirkel, Cologne, Germany. Reported to have been found in Apulia, impressive example of trade in Ancient Greece.
