Object: Athenian black-figure Lekythos

Material: Red clay with black slip and dark red and white painting
So-called black figure vase

Date: 550 - 475 B.C.

Description:    Lekythos with echinus foot and elegant high body with high shoulder which is clearly separated from the high neck by a small ridge.
The scene on body shows a dancing maenad between two satyrs. The hair and tails of the satyrs are partially drawn with dark red paint, face, arms and legs of the maenad are drawn with white paint. Foot, lower part of the body and spout are black glazed, on the shoulder a band of rays and an overlapping band of oval shields and lance-shaped leafs.

Size: Height 179 mm, diameter 85 mm

Condition: Overall in very good condition, very nicely preserved original decoration. Restoration at neck (broken and professionally re-attached), parts of foot broken and missing, minor chips on lip.
