Description:    Discus-shaped foot rising in three stages, high stem with central ridge. High cylindrical body with wide flat mouth. High concave handles with stop ridge at the height of the mouth and a small leaf in the lower third part of the handle.
Both sides show a female head to the left with rich head dress, ear rings and jewelry. Musical instruments in front of the chin and behind the neck, hooked staff at the forehead.

Size: Diameter 166 mm, height 167 mm.

Condition: Handles and foot broken and re-attached professionally. Very well preserved for such a large and delicate vessel. Overall impression worth the exhibition in a museum. On base old sticker "APULIEN IV Jh. v. Chr. KANTHAROS".

Collection Dr. H. R.: Dr. H. R., who graduated in Classical Philology, was a grammar school (Gymnasium) teacher and a scholar of ancient history. After finishing his studies, he began collecting Roman coins in 1970. Only one year later, Dr. R. started to add other antiquities from the Roman Imperial era to his collection, soon followed by Greek vases which mainly originated from South Italy. The collection was exhibited at his residence in the Rhineland in Germany. The last object of the collection was acquired in 1989.
