Description: |
Matching pair of convex appliques of nice artistic quality. Each applique shows the goddess of victory, Victoria. Her legs transform into a palmette. The wings spread out to each side were probably also used as soldering points to attach the bronze decoration. Both arms are raised above the head, holding a wreath. The two bronze figures are certainly ornaments that were mounted to a medium-sized vessel. A handle or a chain could be attached to the loop holes in the form of wreaths. The fact that both pieces are belonging together and are in this state of preservation is a stroke of luck. |
