Material: Beige to orange clay with slip.

Period: 1000 BC to 200 BC.
Iron Age to Classical Antiquity.

Description:    A mixed group of three pottery vessels. Consisting of an ancient clay pot from the eastern Mediterranean, with a bulbous body and two side handles. An ancient Greek cup with straight, steep walls and a large handle. And an Iron Age jug from the Levant made of thick-walled clay.

Dimensions: The vessel with double handles measures approximately 14.5cm in diameter with handles and 12.5cm in height. The cup measures 12.2cm in diameter with handles and 6.7cm in height. The jug measures 22.5cm in height, originally slightly taller.

Condition: The vessel with a double handle has been reassembled from numerous fragments, with a large 7cm missing piece at the bottom of the belly, as well as smaller missing pieces on the body. Some shards are not particularly solid and may loosen. The handled cup is almost completely intact, with only a few chips on the rim. Very good condition. The jug lacks the handle and spout, while the rest of the body is very well preserved, with the original red slip on the surface.

Councilor Prof. Dr. Karl-Heinz Manegold (1930–2021) was a historian and long-time professor at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hanover, Germany. In addition to his academic activities, he was politically and culturally active in Göttingen, Germany for decades, including as chairman of the Cultural Committee and as the initiator of a local cultural award. His interest in archaeology is reflected in his extensive and well-documented collection of Etruscan artefacts, which was published in scholarly publications by his mentor and colleague, Prof. Dr. Raddatz.
