Object: Cypriot so-called milk bowl

Material: Light clay with beige slip and dark brown paint.

Period: 1600 BC to 1100 BC.
Late Bronze Age of the Ancient Near East.

Description:    Hemispherical bowl with a V-shaped handle at one side. The outer surface is painted with bands of cross-hatches.
This is a very typical vessel made in Bronze Age Cyprus. It was exported with great success to the Levant coast. The class is known as White Slip II Ware and for the exact type of vessel the name Milk Bowl stuck.

Dimensions: 19cm to 20cm diameter without handle, 24.6cm diameter with handle. 7.5cm to 10cm height.

Condition: Some stabilized and some closed cracks in the wall. Two chips on the inner part of the lip and one chip on the handle. Otherwise fully intact which is rare for pottery of this size. Also the painting on the outer surface is in magnificent condition. Apart from minor abrasion it is still vibrant and original. Modern black inscription "No 1030" at the handle.
