Object: Luristan bronze figurine of an ibex

Material: Massive cast bronze.

Period: 800 BC to 600 BC.
Iron Age III.

Description:    Solid bronze figure in the shape of an ibex ready to jump with curved horns and a tail pointing backwards. The body is cast in the round and stands on a flat pedestal with a total of six holes on the sides. The eyes and two decorations on each side of the body were added with a drill or punched after casting. There is an eyelet on the back, which made it possible to use the figure as a pendant.

Dimensions: 44mm high, 29mm long.

Condition: Perfect condition. The body is complete and intact, only minor damages and abrasion are possible, but not significant and unavoidable given its age. Beautiful green patina.

Provenance: Acquired by us in 2023 from T. Schloessner, Germany. Previously in the German Steinbock family collection, built between 1920 and 1982 by the art historian R. Steinbock, mostly acquired on the German art market.
