Object: Near Eastern sword blade made of bronze

Material: Solid bronze cast with green and brown patina.

Period: Around the middle of the 2nd Millennium BC.
Bronze Age.

Description:    Long blade of a one-handed, double-edged sword from the Near East. It tapers to the tip and widens at the back. There is a wide middle ridge on both sides. At the back, the blade merges into a tang, which was once used to hold the handle. The hilt itself was made of perishable material, perhaps wood, horn, or bone.

Dimensions: 49cm long.

Condition: Very good condition. Some old or recent damage to the edges, body otherwise fully intact and covered with an attractive green patina.

Provenance: Acquired by us on the German art market in 2022. Previously in the German Pladeck family collection. Acquired into the collection in the 1960s or earlier, presumably from the art trade.
