Material: Grey rock.

Period: Circa 3500 BC until 2000 BC.
New Stone Age. Middle Neolithic.

Description:    The axe from the younger Stone Age is probably a battle axe. It has a wedge-shaped longitudinal profile, ending in a trapezoid shape at the neck. All sides finely chipped and roughly polished. Pointed cutting edge, parallel to the shaft. Between the neck and the cutting edge there is a through hole for the shaft 1/4 of the way.
Impressive axe head. A comparative piece is classified as a battle-axe by P.V. Glob.

Dimensions: 14.4cm long. 4.7cm wide, 3.5cm thick.

Condition: Good condition. Some signs of use or erosion at the surface. Body otherwise complete and intact.

Provenance: Acquired by us in 2022 on the German art market. Previously in the German private collection Pladeck. Acquired into the collection in the 1960s or earlier.
