Material: Green rock with brown texture. Jadeite.

Period: 5500 BC until 2200 BC.
Neolithic.

Description:    Small neolithic axe head from southern France. The tool has the shape of a trapezoidal wedge. Both sides of the cutting edge are finely polished. The stone blade was once mounted and used as an axe. Some old chips indicate its practical use.

Dimensions: 7.0cm long.

Condition: Beautifully smoothed surface on all sides, finely polished on the cutting edge. Some flaking on the body and cutting edge. Overall good condition. Sticker from the Artaud collection with "AH7" printed on it.

Provenance: Acquired by us in 2022 on the French art market. Previously in the French Artaud family collection, collection number AH7. Acquired in the 1970s in Aix en Provence, France.
