Description: |
Matching pair of gold earrings. Each earring consists of a round shield with a decorative granule on one side and a soldered ring that is connected to the shield on the opposing side via an eyelet and hook. On the ring is a pendant with a sphere made of gold sheet and a volute on the upper eyelet. This type of earring was widespread in Roman Imperial times, from the provinces north of the Alps through the Balkans to the eastern Mediterranean. |
Dimensions: |
Eyelet with pendant 31mm and 29mm long. The shield is approximately 7mm in diameter. Both earrings together weigh approximately 2g.

Condition: |
One earring in perfect condition. The other earring with a dented sheet gold sphere.

Acquired by us in 2023 on the German art market. Previously in the German family collection K. J. Mueller. Acquired between 1950 and 1977, presumably from the art market.
