Object: Roman glass bottle with handle

Material: Colourless, transparent glass.

Period: 50 AD to 200 AD.
Roman Imperial period.

Description:    Glass bottle with cylindrical body and flat base. The short constricted neck terminates in a thick lip. A wide handle runs from the top of the neck to the shoulder. It is decorated by vertical grooves.
The strikingly low bottle type is a most interesting counterpart to the corresponding tall versions. Close parallels come from the Black Sea coast and the Near East according to M. Klein (see references), so it can be assumed this specimen was also produced there.

Dimensions: 13.7cm height. 11.2cm diameter.

Condition: Perfect condition. Completely intact, with original find remains on the inside. Three modern stickers on the bottom. One with the inscription "1", the Heckmann collection number.

Provenance: Acquired by us in 2023 from the German Heckmann family collection. The founder Peter Heckmann acquired the glass collection in the 1970s on the German art market.
