South Italian, Campanian.

Description:    High vase with elegant foot, slightly conical body flat shoulder and high neck with broad lip. On it, attached handle with hole in the center which could be used to suspend the vessel.
One side shows a naked warrior standing to the left, the right foot set on two stones. He carries a white shield and white leg protectors, the right hand is holding a lance on which the warrior is leaning. Hair dressed with a white pearl diadem.
The other side shows a corpulent young man standing to the left, dressed with a wide himation (a so-called "mantle youth").
Both sides separated by volutes, on the neck band of long rays.

Size: Diameter 100 mm, height 328 mm.

Condition: Almost perfect condition. The lip and bail restored from fragments, otherwise complete and undamaged. Original paint almost perfectly preserved, incl. the sensitive yellow and white painting.

Provenance: Acquired 2022 at the German art market. From an old German private collection, acquired 2013 at von Zengen auction house. Ex old German private collection Rosenkranz, acquired in the 1970s.
