Early - Middle Bronze Age

Description:    Long blade terminating in a point, pronounced raised midrib, fine edges. Base with four pins on each side to attach a handle.

Size: Length 272 mm

Condition: Metal very well preserved, nice patina. All four rivets to fix the handle preserved. With inventory number of the Jewish Museum "JM120-15 [or -75]" in black at the base.

Provenance: Acquired 2020 in a US auction house. Ex Erwin und Sylvia Harvith collection (Detroit, USA), acquired 1972 from the collection of Moshe Dayan (with business card of General Dayan, attribution and dating on the blade on the back of the card). In 1975 part of the exhibition “Culture and Continuity, The Jewish Journey” by the Jewish Museum, New York City, USA.
Moshe Dayan was a famous Israeli politician and military leader. Dayan served as Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defense Forces in 1953 and 1958, personally commanded the Israeli forces fighting in the Sinai during the 1956 Suez Crisis and later as Defense Minister.
