Object number
AR2285
Object: Canaanite bronze figurine

Material: Bronze, originally plated with silver.

Period: 2nd Millenium BC.
Bronze Age.

Description:    Crude small bronze figure of a standing male with headdress. Legs and feet summarily modelled, arms bent and held in front of the chest. A big pin under the feet was used to mount the figurine. A vertical notch at the back was used to set the silver plating which must have once covered the figurine.
We speculate that this is the depiction of a charioteer. The small piece of art was made in the Levant, famously known as the Land of Canaan during the time of manufacture, according to the bible.

Dimensions: 61mm height without acrylic base.

Condition: Very good condition. Strong patina and some remains of the original silver plating on the bronze surface. Old sticker from Davies Antiques at the back of the base reading "5A £125".

Provenance: Acquired by us in 2017 from the private posession of M. Voos, Germany. Inherited by M. Voos from the German private collection H. Herbst. Acquired in 1978 at Davies Antiques, London for the Herbst collection and brought to Germany (a copy of the original invoice is available).
