Object: Canaanite scarab

Material: Steatite.

Period: 13th dynasty to mid 15th dynasty of Ancient Egypt.
1759 BC to 1575 BC.
Middle Bronze Age.

Description:    Seal in the shape of a scarab. With drill hole along the long axis. The upper side is schematic. The lower side is engraved and the impression shows five double spirals arranged in an oval.

Dimensions: 14mm length. 5.5mm width.

Condition: Superb condition. Only minor chips at the bottom side and at one end of the drill hole. Including seal impression made by one of the previous owners.

Provenance: Acquired by us in 2018 from R. Deutsch, Israel. Exported in the same year with permission of the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA). Previously in the private collection of I. Rosen, Tel Aviv, Israel. Acquired for the collection in Israel before 1980.
