Object: Canaanite scarab

Material: Steatite.

Period: At the time of the Second Intermediate Period of Egypt,
13th dynasty to 17th dynasty,
approx. 1648 BC to 1550 BC.

Description:    Seal in the shape of a scarab. With drill hole along the long axis. The upper side is schematic. The lower side is engraved and the impression shows pseudo hieroglyphs: Eye of Horus, Red Crown and the Nefer sign for good luck.

Dimensions: 14mm long. 5mm wide.

Condition: Outstanding condition. Only one stable crack at the rear end.

Provenance: Acquired by us in 2018 from R. Deutsch, Israel. Exported in the same year with permission of the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA). Previously in the private collection of I. Rosen, Tel Aviv, Israel.
