Object: Canaanite scarab

Material: Steatite.

Period: Mid 13th dynasty to mid 15th dynasty of Ancient Egypt.
1700 BC to 1575 BC.
Middle Bronze Age.

Description:    Seal in the shape of a scarab. With drill hole along the long axis. The upper side is schematic. The lower side is engraved and the impression shows a geometric pattern of interconnected spirals.

Dimensions: 18mm long. 12mm wide.

Condition: Superb condition. Only minor chips and some cracks across the upper side. Including seal impression made by one of the previous owners.

Provenance: Acquired by us in 2018 from R. Deutsch, Israel. Exported in the same year with permission of the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA). Previously in the private collection of I. Rosen, Tel Aviv, Israel. Acquired for the collection in Israel before 1980.
