Description: | Etruscan antefix showing the bust of a woman. Round arch relief. In the center a beautiful archaic Kore head with large almond-shaped eyes, an elaborated hair dress and large ear jewellery. To the sides palmettes with alternating red and black leafs. The outer arch is decorated with a kymation frieze with egg and dart, also alternating in black and red. The piece made part of the ornament of an Etruscan building, forming the final roof tile visible from the ground (antifixa). Thanks to comparable pieces found in archeologic excavations, a very precise dating can be attributed. An aspect particular to the piece offered here is the magnificent preservation without damages and the fully preserved colors. |
