Object: Pair of Roman earrings with pendant and beads

Material: Gold. Beads made of blue glass.

Period: 2nd to 3rd century AD,
Roman Imperial period.

Description:    Matching pair of gold earrings. Each earring consists of a ring made of gold wire with a small decorative strip made of gold sheet soldered on and a pendant attached. The pendant consists of a ribbed gold rod, a C-shaped volute at the top and two blue glass beads at the bottom.
These are beautiful and typical Roman earrings. It is exceptional that the two earrings are of exactly the same design and certainly originally belong together. A matching pair.

Dimensions: Circa 33mm long.

Condition: Perfect condition. Gold body and beads complete and intact. Only minor and expected degree of bending of the gold.

Provenance: Acquired by us on the German art market in 2020. Previously in the German private collection V. L. Acquired into it between 1925 and 1979 and located in Germany ever since. Parts of the collection were bought at the Swiss dealers Muenzen und Medaillen AG in Basel and Bank Leu in Zuerich.
