Object number
AR2629
Object: Dagger blade made of beautiful flint

Material: Clear black flint.

Period: Approximately 2350 BC to 1700 BC.
Copper Age in Northern Europe.

Description:    Finely worked long blade with pointy tip. The blade is not symmetrical but slightly curved.
What is special about this piece is the beautiful stone. A previous owner noted around 100 years ago that he thinks it is obsidian. However, given the long distance between the find spot Luetzow and the nearest obsidian mines in Eastern Europe this seems unlikely.

Dimensions: 108mm long, 43mm wide.

Condition: Very good condition. Old sticker "11".

Provenance: Acquired by us in 2018 from the German family collection Warning. Acquired in the collection by Karl Walter Warning between 1905 and 1925, collection no. 11. A hand written list from that time denotes the find spot as Lützow in Mecklenburg, Germany and attributes it to the Ruegener culture.
