Decorated Boeotian Kylix from Tanagra

Object:       Cup with a high foot (Kylix)

Material: Red clay with black slip

Date: End of 5th - first half of 4th century B.C.

Description:    Bowl with central well occupying the space within the very thick stem. High rim turning sharply out into a short lip, handles rounded at the far end.
Decorated on each side with upright palmette between two lying palmettes. Foot, outside of the handles and inside of bowl except for the reserved well covered with black slip.
This kind of cup was found in large numbers at Tanagra and may be assumed to have been made there (see CVA Reading University 1, p. 31)

Size: Diameter 258 mm with and 202 mm without handles, height 82 mm.

Condition: Professionally restored from large fragments, few very professionally retouched modern areas at the rim. Great overall impression.
