Object: Juglet from the Holy Land

Material: Beige coarse clay.

Period: Around 700 BC.
Iron Age II.

Description:    Dipper juglet with a pear shaped body and cylindrical neck. The lip is pointing outwards. A circular profile handle runs from the lip to the shoulder.
The small jug is a typical pottery of daily life in Israel in biblical times. Hebron is passed down as the find spot for this piece, a city with considerable historical importance.

Dimensions: 120mm height, 63mm diameter without handle.

Condition: Juglet fully intact with small, probably ancient chips. Possibly a small restoration beneath one of the stickers. Overall very nice impression. Modern stickers reading "1436", "399" and one with Hebrew script.

Provenance: Acquired by us in 2017 from K. Baidun, Israel. Exported with approval no. 536560 by the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA). Previously in the Baidun family collection since at least 1950. Hebron has been passed down as the find spot of this piece.
