C. 1549 BC to 1292 BC, New Kingdom.

Description:    Egyptian funerary statuette with a mummy shaped body. Wears a tripartite wig, arms are crossed in front of the chest, legs and feet are summarily modelled.

Dimensions: 24.2cm high without base. Approx. 6.2cm wide at the arms.

Condition: Great condition of the wood. Nice dark surface with intact details. Small chips at the feet and head. Some remains of original black paint. Probably some restoration to the face. The ushabti is mounted on a black wood base. A modern white inscription on the front of the figurine is reading "CA/5/H". Old sticker at the base imprinted and inscribed "COLL. VÉRITÉ N° 466B". Impressive figurine worth of being exhibited in a museum.

Provenance: Acquired by us in 2019 from a French auction house, exported with French Passport. Previously in the French collection of the famous dealer-collector family Vérité, based in Paris, acquired before 1972, inventory no. 466B. According to a catalogue note this figurine comes from the collection of the FitzWilliam museum Cambridge. The inscription at the front suggests the figurine was formerly in the possession of Lord Carnarvon, which is supported by a mention in Jeanine Vérité's documentation of the provenance, it must have been collected between 1907 and 1923.

Publications: This ushabti has been published in the exhibition catalogue Maison des Arts de Monbéliard, La Méditerranée berceau de l’Europe (1971 Nov. 6th to Dec. 15th), no 32 (text only, no photo).
