Object: Etrusco-Corinthian Alabastron

Material: Pale clay with black-brownish slip

Date: First half 6th century B.C.

Description:    Pear-shaped body, slightly flattened at base. Short neck opening into a plate-shaped mouth with conical rim. Small handle with hole which allowed to hang the jug for storage.
Decorated with bands of dots and rays and lines of various thickness.

Size: Height 110 mm, diameter 64 mm

Condition: Professionally restored from several fragments with small reconstructed areas. Chip at mouth. Painting partially worn. With old collection stickers "3168/33" und "33", below "33" with pencil.

Provenance: Acquired 2021 from Mr. M.B., Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, who acquired the alabastron and other objects from the collection of M.T., Bergisch Gladbach, Germany. Inherited from his parents who acquired the object in Germany in the 1960s. A note from the antiquities dealer Dr. Kurt Deppert, "Kunstwerke der Antike", Frankfurt am Main, dated February 08, 1968, sets the terminus ante quem the object was acquired into the collection T. Dr. Deppert was requested by the family T. to provide a short assessment of the collection, which he did along with a detailed description of all objects.
