Object: Ancient spindle whorls

Material: Stone.
Dimensions: Approx. 20mm to 30mm in diameter, 5mm to 15mm in height.
Period: 4th cent. BC to 4th cent. AD.
Classical antiquitiy, hellenistic to roman.
Condition: Near perfect condition. Only minor chips.
Description Group of 25 ancient hellenistic to roman spindle whorls made of stone. Flat bodies with a circular cross-section. One side planar the other side conical or hemispherical. All sides are polished, central drilling hole.
Provenance: Acquired in 2009 from the remaining stock of dutch antiquities dealer W. van Stormbroek.
