| Description: |
Bell krater, large vase for mixing of wine with water. One side shows a woman sitting on a pile of stones. She is wearing a chiton and rich jewelry, the right hand is holding a flower, the left is posing on the stones. The woman is approached from the left by a naked young man who offers her a large plate with the left arm, the right holds a long staff decorated with leafs, his cloak draped over the elbows behind his body. The other side shows two youth dressed in a mantle facing each other, leaning on long staffs. Below the figures a band of meanders and other geometric elements. A large palmette below each handle. Below the lip a laurel wreath. |

Very good overall impression. Professionally restored, only one small piece and parts missing along the connection between the fragments are remodeled. Original painting is perfectly preserved. Sticker with print"39" on the inside. Very impressive vase.

Very similar to Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum, Milano, Museo Civico Archeologico 1, IV.D.3, Pl. 2.1-2, 5.2 The vase published there is attributed to the Truro Painter, possibly this krater originates from the same workshop. |
