Southern or Central Italy, imitating Corinthian ware

Description:    Ovoid jug with high conical foot, flat shoulder, a very short neck opening into a trefoil-shaped mouth and a flat handle. .
Painted with red bands of various thickness.

Size: Height 191 mm, diameter 114 mm

Condition: Mouth restored from several fragments, otherwise perfectly preserved with mainly preserved original painting. Impressive condition for a vessel of this size.

Provenance: Acquired 2021 from Mr. M.B., Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, who acquired the oinochoe and other objects from the collection of M.T., Bergisch Gladbach, Germany. Inherited from his parents who acquired the object in Germany in the 1960s. A note from the antiquities dealer Dr. Kurt Deppert, "Kunstwerke der Antike", Frankfurt am Main, dated February 08, 1968, sets the terminus ante quem the object was acquired into the collection T. Dr. Deppert was requested by the family T. to provide a short assessment of the collection, which he did along with a detailed description of all objects.
