Etrusco-Corinthian

Description:    High vase with ovoid body and ring-shaped base. Flat handle shaped into two segments, large rotella to each side.
Neck covered with slip on in- and outside except reserved lip, handle covered with slip on both sides. Rosettes on rotellae. Body visually separated into three registers, showing birds and animals, e.g., lions, antelopes, wild boars.

Size: Height 33cm, diameter 15.3cm without and 17.6cm with handle

Condition: A part of the body with about 5cm diameter and a small part on the lower side of the handle professionally restored, otherwise perfectly preserved. Decoration widely very nicely preserved. Small hole on the bottom, possibly a modern drilling hole for mounting or a scientific analysis.

Provenance: Acquired in 2022 at a Swiss auction house. Ex Swiss private collection. Ex collection of Ms. Mara Scotoni-Coppetti (1903–1978), acquired Juli 28, 1971 at S.A.D.A. Volterra's Galerie, Florence. The invoice incl. a description of the piece is preserved, as well as a color photograph dated Dec 1971. Together with other pieces of the collection the vase was presented at the Archaeological Institute of the University of Zurich in 1981, an official letter dating to Feb 23, 1981, with a list of items of which the vase is part is preserved.
