Description: |
High elegant vessel with broad foot in two degrees. Pear-shaped body, high elegant neck, two handles with circular cross-section. Mouth, handles and exterior of body black except for a reserved band with an uneven edge below the ribbing at the base of the body. A yellow band runs around the body, dividing the ribbing in two parts. On each side of the neck is a dove sitting on a branch, framed with tendrils, lines and geometric patterns above. |

Upper part of vessel with some chips and wear, otherwise very well preserved incl. the painting. Impressive vase.

Collection Dr. H. R.: |
Dr. H. R., who graduated in Classical Philology, was a grammar school (Gymnasium) teacher and a scholar of ancient history. After finishing his studies, he began collecting Roman coins in 1970. Only one year later, Dr. R. started to add other antiquities from the Roman Imperial era to his collection, soon followed by Greek vases which mainly originated from South Italy. The collection was exhibited at his residence in the Rhineland in Germany. The last object of the collection was acquired in 1989.
