Object: Maya pottery bowl

Material: Earthenware with beige and red slip, painted details in black.

Period: Late Classic period of the Maya civilization,
approx. 600 AD to 900 AD.

Description:    Tall bowl of almost cylindrical shape, but with a slightly tapered wall. Black abstract painting on the outside wall showing circles, lines and curves.

Dimensions: 14.7cm diameter. 9.4cm height.

Condition: Very good condition with a stabilized crack through the body and small filled defects on the rim. The original painting is largely preserved. Sticker with hard-to-read handwriting "24 CI" on the bottom.

Provenance: Acquired by us on the German art market in 2021. Previously in the German family collection E. P. Acquired in the 1960s or 1970s.
