Description:    Convex bowl richly decorated with flowers on the outside and a flower inside.

Size: Diameter 144mm, height 53mm.

Condition: Perfectly preserved. Outer side with traces of marine storage.

Provenance: Acquired 2018 from a traditional Munich auction house. Ex french private collection C.B., in which it was acquired 2004 at Christie's Melbourne. From a wreck discovered 2001 about 41 meters below the surface in the South China Sea about 65 kilometers off the coast of Binh Thuan province. The wreck was excavated by Australian maritime archaeologist Dr. Michael Flecker in 2002. Dr. Flecker identified it as the Chinese junk "I Sin Ho", which was lost at sea while on the return journey to Southeast Asia.
In 2004, a part of the found ceramics (and among them the piece offered here) were sold at an auction by Christies' Melbourne in about 750 lots, to raise funds for the care and display of the wreck’s treasures in Vietnam.
