Material: Pale red clay with beige slip.
Dimensions: Height 300mm, diameter approx. 270mm.
Period: 1. - 3. cent. AD.
The charactersitical, relatively small foot suggest the 3rd cent. AD. Roman period.
Description: Large Roman cinerary urn in museum condition. The object contained an iron axe and an iron knife when unearthed (not part of this offer). Ancient ceramics of this size are rarely found intact.

This epic work is often used for nomenclature for these types of ceramics.
Provenance: Acquired 2010 from an old German colleciton. 2009 to 2010 in storage for a possible purchase at LVR RömerMuseum Xanten (Roman Museum of Xanten). Formerly collection Hans Weber, which was built between 1977 and 2004 from official trade and older collections, according to German and European legislation. Found in the Rhineland, Germany. Probably in the vicinity of Xanten (near Roman Colonia Ulpia Traiana).
