Object: Neolithic axe head from Luetzow in Northern Germany

Material: Dark brown flint.

Period: 3200 BC to 2800 BC.
Middle Passage grave culture period to Single Grave culture period.

Description:    Thick butted trapezoid axe head made of flint. It was mounted and used as an axe during the Neolithic. The trapezoid sides are polished, the smaller sides unpolished. The blade is slightly curved. Thick butt in relation to its height.

Dimensions: 164mm long, 21mm x 16mm at the butt. 50mm wide blade.

Condition: Great condition. Some old chips across the blade. Old sticker "20" on top of further older stickers.

Provenance: Acquired by us in 2018 from the German family collection Warning. Acquired in the collection by Karl Walter Warning between 1905 and 1925, collection no. 20. A hand written list from that time denotes the find spot as Lützow in Mecklenburg, Germany.
