Object: | Oil lamp from western Asia Minor, probably from Ephesus |
Material: | Red clay with partially preserved coating. |

Description: | Wreath on discus. The fabric, style and upturned nozzle strongly suggest western Asia Minor, possibly the area of Ephesus. The products of this major lampmaking area were in competition with the conventional voluted lamps being made further west but retained archaic idiosyncracies such as a central filling hole, upturned nozzle, and very often a pierced handle. |
