Painted Bronze Age cup from Syria

Description: |
Tall cup with waist and short neck. A thick handle is attached to one side. The design is dominated by the brownish-red paint covering the whole body and the handle. Parallel and crossed lines form a multitude of geometric patterns. The pottery was made without using a wheel.

Approx. 13cm tall, approx. 9cm diameter (without handle).

Condition: |
Restored at the handle. Small chips accross the body. The paint is very well preserved. As a whole extraordinary state of preservation for Bronze Age pottery. An old sticker that came with the pottery is from Davies Antiques and reads "23B CPT. £25".

Provenance: |
Acquired by us in 2017 from the private posession of M. Voos, Germany. Inherited by M. Voos from the Germany private collection H. Herbst. Acquired in 1977 at Davies Antiques, London for the Herbst collection and brought to Germany (a copy of the original invoice is available). Syria is stated as a find spot.
