Object: Predynastic vase decorated with spirals

Material: Orange clay with red-brown painting.

Period: Middle Naqada II culture,
circa 3400 BC to 3300 BC.
Predynastic Egypt.

Description:    Slender vase with ovoid body and outward-pointing lip. Two pierced lug handles are located on opposite sides at the height of the shoulder. Characteristic painting with spirals of different sizes on the entire outer surface.

Dimensions: 144mm height. Circa 100mm diameter.

Condition: Very good condition. Crack on one side of the body and minor chips on the outside, otherwise completely preserved including the original paintwork.

Provenance: Acquired by us on the Swiss art market in 2021. Previously in the Swiss family collection Meyer. Acquired in 1978 from the Swiss antiquities dealer Elsa Bloch-Diener. A copy of the receipt from 1978 is available.
