Description: |
Bulbous vessel on an oval base with trefoil spout as a stylized bird's head. Beginnings of a strap handle preserved. Decorated with line ornament, zigzag band, hatched diamond frieze on the belly, on the bottom two semi-ovals made up of rows of dots.

Length 11 cm, width 8 cm, height 8,5 cm.

Condition: |
Handle and stylized bird's tail broken and missing. Body intact, with some chips, fragment at the top of the body flaked off, chipped rim of trefoil mouth. Painting is strongly worn on one side and widely preserved on the other side of the body.

Acquired 2022 at Jean-David Cahn AG, Basel, Switzerland. Ex Swiss private collection Prof. Hans Dahn (1919-2019), Lausanne. Acquired April 13, 1956 from Rounos in Athens, as can be reconstructed from the inventory list of Prof. Dahn which is preserved in copy. In this list, the Askos was assigned the collection numbers 143 and GV4.
