Object: Roman balsamarium

Material: Pale turquoise glass.

Period: 1st century AD.
Roman Imperial.

Description:    Free-blown glass vessel with pear shaped body. The vessel bottom is flattened. The lip is directed outwards.
Liepmann locates the production of such vessels to the Western Mediterranean or possibly Nothern Italy (cf. reference below).

Dimensions: 73mm height.

Condition: Perfect condition with nice patina. Sticker reading "4" at the bottom side.

Provenance: Acquired by us in 2017 from the private posession of M. Voos, Germany. Inherited by M. Voos from the Germany private collection H. Herbst. Acquired between 1976 and 1978 on the London art market, probably at Davies Antiques, for the Herbst collection and brought to Germany.
