| Material: | Ring made of gold sheet, the intaglio of carnelian. | 
| Period: | Late Roman Imperial period, 2nd to 3rd cent. AD. | 
| Description: | Hollow gold band with D-shaped cross-section, which elegantly widens into a mount holding a beautiful intaglio. The carnelian gem shows Mercury, the Roman god of trade, identified by his attributes. | 
| Dimensions: | 26mm x 21mm outer diameter. 20mm x 17.5mm inner diameter. | 
| Condition: | Perfect condition. Band and intaglio fully intact and preserved in their original state. | 
| Provenance: | Acquired by us in 2018 from a traditional German auction house. Consigned from a German private collection. It has been in that collection since the early 1980ies. |
