Object: Small storage vessel from Early Bronze Age

Material: Dark clay with dark slip.

Period: Early Bronze Age in Europe,
c. 2200 BC to 1600 BC.

Description:    Elegant vessel with steep walls and bulge encircling the body at half its height. The neck is waisted. Two holes are at its top, also two loop holes at the bulge by which the vessel could be stringed. It was thus protected from animals and was probably used to store food.

Dimensions: 102mm height, 97mm diameter.

Condition: Very good condition. Piece of 18mm missing at the lip, otherwise fully intact. Nice patina with root marks.

Provenance: Acquired by us in 2017 from the German private collection Heimbach. Inherited from the German private collection Karl Naske. Acquired by Mr. Naske on the art market in the 1960ies or 1970ies.
